Who are the Members of KATSEYE? Meet the Viral Girl Group

And catch their origin story in Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE.

    Aug. 25, 2025

It was a long, arduous exam season for the young women who competed in The Debut: Dream Academy. The audition program, put together by K-pop entertainment leader HYBE and major US record label Geffen Records, determined which of these talented hopefuls will snag a spot as part of one of the most highly anticipated girl group ever put together. After months of trials, triumphs, and tears, it’s pencils down: the live finale took place in November 2023, and with it, the unveiling of the six members destined for global pop stardom.

Geffen Records and HYBE — best known for creating BTS — received over 120,000 submissions from talent around the globe. Among those, 20 young women were selected to take part in The Debut: Dream Academy. Over 12 weeks, the group took part in three singing and dancing missions, on which they were judged by a panel of experts from both companies as well as fans who voted online. The original 20 were then whittled down to 10; the final six members who make up the official group, KATSEYE, were announced at the live finale event in Los Angeles. But even before then, KATSEYE have already given fans a taste of their sound and style with the June 2024 release of their first single, Debut. Their EP, SIS (Soft Is Strong), dropped in August 2024.

While you prep for catching up on the Netflix documentary Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE — which gives an intimate look at the process of making the group, modeled after the K-pop training and development system — meet the six women who’ve proved to be some of the best performers the world has to offer.

About

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Daniela Avanzini has been dancing since she was only 4 years old — a family tradition, as her mother, who was the first Cuban to win a world ballroom championship, was her first dance teacher. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Daniela gained some attention as a child, ballroom dancing in America’s Got Talent, as well as in So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation. When she was around 11, she started uploading videos of herself singing and playing the ukulele to social media.
