Those who’ve been biding their time waiting for Castlevania: Nocturne to drop, we’re here to make your day: A sneak peek has arrived. The anime horror series, set 300 years after Castlevania takes place, follows vampire hunters during the French Revolution who join forces to stop a team of powerful vampires from destroying the world. Among them is Richter Belmont, the last descendant of a family of vampire hunters. Check out the first seven minutes of Episode 1 above before the premiere on Sept. 28.

Here’s what goes down in the clip: In 1783 Boston, fireworks go off along the harbor. A woman named Julia walks with her young son, Richter. He’s on his way to France, where Julia thinks he’ll be safer. Richter doesn’t want to go, but his mom says she has no choice. Suddenly, a sinister-looking man appears. It’s Olrox, a 250-year-old vampire. What happens next will change the course of Richter’s life forever.
“Nocturne… explores new themes which I hope will resonate with the world around us today,” creator Clive Bradley (Trapped) told Netflix. Loosely based on the video game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, Castlevania: Nocturne brings back Castlevania showrunner Kevin Kolde and directors Sam Deats and Adam Deats. The series stars Edward Bluemel, Pixie Davies, Thuso Mbedu, Sydney James Harcourt, Nastassja Kinski, Zahn McClarnon, and Franka Potente.
