Teddy (Jesse Plemons), a passionate beekeeper, hates his warehouse job at the pharmaceutical conglomerate Auxolith, which produces the very pesticides that are killing his beloved bees. After extensive internet rabbit-holing, he becomes convinced that the company’s CEO, Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone), is an alien hell-bent on destroying the planet. Luckily, he has a plan to save his precious honey makers — and the world. Teddy and his cousin Don (Aidan Delbis) kidnap Michelle from right outside her luxury home and take her hostage in their basement. Now it’s time for Teddy to begin negotiations with the Andromedans for the future of Earth — while Michelle is forced to play along with Teddy’s delusions in order to survive.
Directed by six-time Oscar nominee Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite) and written by Will Tracy (Succession), Bugonia racked up four Academy Award nods in 2026 for Best Picture, Best Original Score, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actress in a Leading Role for Stone’s performance.
