What is ‘Action Pack’? And Other Questions You’ll Probably Be Asking

Before your kids get hooked on this colorful show, here’s everything you need to know.

If your kids love a catchy theme song, colorful characters and superpowers that would make any name brand superhero jealous, then try Action Pack.

The series, which packs a lot of heart, will make your kid not only want to have superpowers but also use their own inner powers to help others, just like the pint-sized heroes do on screen. Just don’t be surprised if your kids start pretending that their own hoodies will give them superpowers of their own or begin screaming “plant power” while they’re playing in the backyard. (Don’t say we didn’t warn you.)

Here are a few things you need to know about Action Pack Season 1 before you tune in. What is Action Pack?  Geared toward 2- to 7-year-olds, the animated series centers on a group of young superheroes called the “Action Pack” who attend the Action Academy in the town of Hope Springs. With just a quick zip-up of their hoodies, members of the Action Pack receive unique powers that help them help others and get out of sticky situations — and learn important lessons at the same time.

Who’s in Action Pack? The Action Pack is made up of four young heroes with their own distinct personalities.

Clay: The silent but strong member of the pack, Clay uses his listening skills to help keep the peace among his group of friends. Clay has “plasma power” that allows him to see through things, stretch himself really far, and protect himself and others from harm using his “invinci-ball.”

Treena: As a nature lover, Treena is able to help tend to any garden and use her “plant power” to shoot out vines, which come in handy when it comes time to capture villains. Treena is confident, helpful, and one of the leaders of the Action Pack.

Watts: This little boy is full of energy to the point that it runs through him, literally. Watts inhabits the power of electric zaps that give him six times the energy of kids his age. This allows him to run fast and always be ready for all kinds of action that comes his way.

Wren: A lover of animals, Wren is fluent in speaking cat, dog, bird, platypus and is currently learning chicken. This skill also allows her to inhabit some of the best parts of animals. Wren can run as fast as a cheetah or use the strength of a polar bear when she isn’t busy taking care of animals and asking tons of questions to those around her.

But the Action Pack wouldn’t be anything without the supporters in their lives, like:

Mr. Ernesto: This patient and kind instructor at the Action Academy and the Action Pack’s mentor. Although he doesn’t have any super special powers of his own, Mr. Ernesto has the greatest power of being empathetic toward the evil villains and providing the Action Pack with all of the support and wisdom that they need in order to save the day.

Plunky: This robotic dog is Mr. Ernesto’s trusty companion who keeps the Action Pack company and alerts them with any important information that they need to know.

Does the show have a theme song that will get stuck in my head? Uh, definitely. It will be easy for the catchy techno-inspired beat to make a home in your ears, and it has some easy-to-remember lyrics. Whether you want to or not, be prepared for these words to burrow themselves into your brain: “We always shine so bright, we’ll help make it right / Heart, smarts, and mega might, ready for action.”

Speaking of catchy, are there any catchphrases?  If there is anything that Action Pack has, it’s catchphrases and mottos that help encourage the team through their daily activities. Most of these mottos are full of good messages that can help guide viewers in their everyday lives, even if they’re not busy saving their communities. While watching Action Pack, you might hear:

“When we work together as a team, things will be easier than they seem.”

“Circle up, hoodies up, and take action.”

“Be smart, be safe, be superheroes!”

"Action on!”

Who are the villains? Like any good show about saving citizens, Action Pack has a handful of villains that are out to ruin the days for the people who live in Hope Springs. But while they may seem bad, their intentions are mostly good. The villains who face off against the Action Pack aren’t villainous — they’re just misunderstood, and they need the Action Pack to bring out the good in them. Throughout the course of the series, you’ll encounter:

Cold Snap: This young kid loves winter and assumes that everyone in Hope Springs loves it as much as he does, even if this means freezing them in place with his “freezy glove.” This glove allows anything in Cold Snap’s path to become frozen, which allows him to use it for good when the citizens of Hope Springs need ice cream.

Dinah Rex: Nothing stops the determined Dinah Rex from getting what she wants. And she wants to turn the citizens of Hope Springs into dinosaurs so they can join her tea party. Unfortunately for Dinah, not everyone wants to be turned into a dinosaur (can’t relate).

Mr. Villainman: He’s a textbook villain intent on getting what he wants from the Action Pack. Heck, villain is in his name. But Mr. Villainman, who later becomes Mr. Partyman, just wants to fit in.

The Baker Bandit: Intent on helping out herself, the Baker Bandit is out to sabotage Phil Doughnut’s bakery. But, the Baker Bandit just wants her own business to thrive.

Does the show have a good message? Each episode comes equipped with a lesson that each member of the Action Pack learns through their own actions or the actions of others. Sometimes, they’re forced to learn about patience, team work, taking their time and following the rules. In each episode, you can see how each character learns how to right their wrongs and learn how it applies to their lives. Each message is easy to understand, which comes in handy for the kids who can take these lessons off screen and use them in school or at home.

Will the kids enjoy it? Each 25-minute-long episode is filled with bright colors and high-energy excitement that will keep them entertained throughout. Not only does Action Pack challenge kids to be creative and use their imaginations, but it also aims to inspire their sense of adventure. Plus, each character in Action Pack has their own personality that kids can relate to. Some might be quiet like Clay, curious like Wren, a natural leader like Treena or full of energy like Watts. Needless to say, have your hoodies ready.
