Steps has found the owner of Cinderella’s famous glass slipper.

Academy Award–nominated actress Amanda Seyfried (Mank, Mamma Mia!) has joined the voice cast of the upcoming animated film, directed by Alyce Tzue (Student Academy Awards gold medal winner) and John Ripa (Raya and the Last Dragon).

The film, a spin on the classic Cinderella tale with the stepsisters taking center stage, will see Seyfried’s character team up with her siblings in an action-filled adventure.

“Amanda has this incredible ability to make her characters specific and relatable, and we absolutely needed that when taking on a character that’s as legendary as Cinderella,” Tzue tells Tudum. “We wanted to create a modern heroine complete with flaws and coping mechanisms, and Amanda immediately understood the task. Her portrayal of Cinderella is hilarious and heartbreaking and, most importantly, refreshingly human.”

The Netflix Animation Studios (NAS) feature was animated at NAS Sydney and NAS Vancouver, which recently unveiled its brand-new campus.

Two animated girls in medieval dresses stand in a lush forest. One girl is smiling and holding a glowing crystal, while the other looks skeptical with arms crossed. Sunlight filters through the trees in the background.

Steps tells the story of Cinderella’s “evil” stepsisters, Lilith (Ali Wong), pictured, and Margot (Stephanie Hsu). When misunderstood Lilith is blamed for hijacking the Royal Ball with a stolen magic wand, she accidentally turns sister Margot into a frog and leaves the kingdom in the hands of a prince-obsessed mean girl. Now Lilith must team up with Cinderella (Seyfried) — and a surprisingly dreamy troll — to save the kingdom, repair the fractured fairy tale, and prove that even so-called villains deserve a shot at happily ever after.

“Amanda has been an absolute joy to work with,” says Ripa. “She brings a level of experience and passion that inspires us to dig even deeper into the character. Her process of honing in on emotions, the control she has over her voice — it all comes together to give Cinderella a depth and humor we could’ve never imagined.”

Produced by Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell, and Kim Lessing, the animated film will premiere on Netflix in 2026. Keep coming back to Tudum to learn more about the magical retelling of the fairy tale we all think we know.
