Sci-Fi Thriller 11817 Starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura Begins Production

Plus, this not-so-safe safe house has gotten a little more crowded with four new cast members.

What if you were stuck indoors for the foreseeable future? That may sound like an acceptable prospect — in theory — for introverts, but for our heroes in the upcoming film 11817, it’s a disconcerting position to be in, to say the least.

Greta Lee and Wagner Moura will star in the original sci-fi thriller directed by Louis Leterrier (Now You See MeLupin). 11817 centers on a family of four who are sealed into their home with no way of getting out. If that doesn’t sound nightmarish enough, their resources are running thin, and they must work together to survive not only a lack of essentials but also the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped inside.

11817 challenges the idea of a safe haven, turning a family home into a hostile environment where survival demands unity,” Leterrier tells Tudum. “This is an ordinary family’s worst nightmare, pushing them to their limits to protect each other and exposing the fragility of security — and the desperate fight to reclaim it.”

Filming is now underway, and four more have joined the ensemble, including Gabriel Barbosa (May December), Noah Alexander Sosnowski (Section 8), Emma Ho (The Baker), and Riley Chung (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes).

Leterrier says of the two leads, “Greta Lee and Wagner Moura have delivered rich, dynamic, and captivating performances throughout their brilliant careers. Their charisma and talent shine through the screen.”

He added, “Our challenge was to find young actors who could match their depth and dedication, but we can confidently say that we found them in Gabriel Barbosa, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, Emma Ho, and Riley Chung. They will guide our family through the years, embracing subtle nuances and deep emotions. I couldn’t imagine a better family to be trapped in our house, bringing our family and their adventure to life.”

The script comes from Matthew Robinson, whose previous work includes Love and MonstersDora and the Lost City of Gold, and The Invention of Lying. Leterrier will produce the project alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kori Adelson for Chernin Entertainment, as well as Oly Obst for 3 Arts Entertainment. Damian Anderson, Benski, Cécile Gaget, Lars Sylvest, and Thorsten Schumacher will serve as executive producers.

You’ll recognize Lee from such projects as The Morning ShowPast Lives, and Russian Doll. She’s also set to star in the upcoming Tron: Ares and the untitled Kathryn Bigelow thriller that’s in the works at Netflix.

Moura’s credits include Civil WarNarcos, Narcos: Mexico, and Shining Girls. In addition to 11817, he will next be seen in the series Dope Thief and is set to star in and direct the upcoming film Last Night at the Lobster.
