[Josh O’Connor] Okay, let's have a quick confab about the ending.
[Kerry Washington] Yeah.
[Jeremy Renner] I don't know who did it.
[laughs]
[Josh Brolin] Exactly.
[Cailee Spaeny] Did what?
[Josh Brolin] That's exactly what I was gonna say.
[Jeremy Renner] I don't know what you're talking about.
[Mila Kunis] I'm proud to say I guessed the killer.
[Daryl McCormack] You did?
[Mila Kunis] When I read it. 100% guessed the killer.
[Glenn Close] Some people would always think I was the murderer.
[Andrew Scott] Yeah.
[Glenn Close] Because I've played Cruella.
[dramatic music playing]
[CLIP] [Glenn Close as Martha Delacroix] Vengeance is mine.
[Glenn Close] I had to read the script three times to really understand what was going on.
[Andrew Scott] Yeah. Yeah. Totally.
[Glenn Close] It was so intricate.
[CLIP] [Glenn Close as Martha Delacroix] Then he told me the fairy tale of how everything had gone according to plan.
[Josh Brolin] I loved reading it because I thought it had ended, and I figured it out. And then it kept going, and I was wrong. And then I go, "Aha, that was very clever. And now I've figured it out." And then I was wrong again.
[CLIP] [Glenn Close as Martha Delacroix] My second mistake. Underestimating the temptation of Eve's apple.
[Daryl McCormack] When you're reading it, you have to piece everything together. You're trying to discover…
[Mila Kunis] It's super visual.
[Daryl McCormack] Yeah, it's super visual.
[Mila Kunis] So it was hard to read because the script had visual…
[Daryl McCormack] Clues. Yeah.
[Mila Kunis] …clues drawn into it.
[Josh Brolin] The whole thing is motivated by the jewel and who will end up with the jewel. And the jewel ends up creating all the havoc that we all go through that results in somebody's death.
[CLIP] [Glenn Close as Martha Delacroix] I told him I understood. I understood why he did it.
[Andrew Scott] As a reader, you're like, "Okay, well, you know," because you're not associating faces with the names when you're reading it.
[Daryl McCormack] I had suspicions about Glenn's character, but not strong enough to actually make a stab at it.
[Mila Kunis] I just assumed if Glenn Close is in it, she has to be the villain.
[Daryl McCormack] She has to be the killer.
[Mila Kunis] What is she gonna be, the nice guy? That's never gonna happen.I mean, it's Glenn Close.
[Daryl McCormack] Yeah.
[Mila Kunis]I was like, "She did it."
[Daryl McCormack] Yeah.
[CLIP] [Glenn Close as Martha Delacroix] These sins, I confess to you, Father. I have lied. I have killed.
[Andrew Scott] I was delighted it was Glenn because that's who we wanted it to be. And that's who I wanted it to be because, you know, she's gonna pull it off. And she was very smart. I mean, that was a smart murder. Smart murder.
[CLIP] [Glenn Close as Martha Delacroix] And now I have topped it all off with a real doozy.
[CLIP] [Martha panting]
[Mila Kunis] Was I excited to see Glenn Close have her magical death scene? Yes. Yes, I was.
[CLIP] [Mila Kunis as Chief Geraldine Scott] Call the ambulance now!
[Josh Brolin] When you have a filmmaker that's as smart as somebody like Rian… I asked him, "Are you one of these guys that said, 'I wrote it in a week'?" He was like, "No, I actually work on the structure for seven or eight months before I even write one word of dialogue." And I was like, "It makes sense."
[Cailee Spaeny] This feels like the most personal one yet for him. Really sort of laid it all out. The ending's very… I found it very moving.
[Daryl McCormack] The symbolism of this jewel being hidden in the heart of, like, this crucifix, I thought it was really amazing.
[Josh O’Connor] He unites his congregation and brings hope back to the church. Hope, truth, and honesty.
[Daniel Craig] Kindness.
[Kerry Washington] Kindness. Oh, and honesty. Wow.
[Daniel Craig] Wow. He's got an invite upstate, um, to… [clears throat] …go and take ayahuasca with um, um…
[Josh O’Connor] Daniel Craig.
[laughter]
[Glenn Close] When I read the ending, well, as an actor, you just hope you can pull it off. [laughs]
[Andrew Scott] And boy, did she.
[Glenn Close] Yeah.
