What was it that made Peaky Blinders click?
In this featurette about Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man and the show’s legacy, star and executive producer Cillian Murphy, creator Steven Knight, and director Tom Harper delve into what it is about the six-season drama series that stole fans’s hearts and minds — and even inspired a few themed weddings.
“It really captured people’s imaginations,” Knight says in the clip above. “I just always thought it is a great story. It doesn’t feel like what one reads about in the history books.”
Harper adds that when they were making the series, they didn’t realize what a phenomenon it would go on to become. “It’s always a mysterious alchemy about why something has connected so deeply with audiences,” he says.
When it came to the cinematic coda to the beloved series, Harper says they all agreed they only wanted to make it if “it was a significant enough addition to the story.” And it seems to have done the job. “It’s completely exceeded my aspiration,” says Murphy.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is in select theaters on March 6 and on Netflix March 20.
