[Maya] I'm Natalia Dyer. We'll take you through the Creel House scene.

[Joe] Shot by shot.

[Joe] At this point, we've decided to go back into the Upside Down. We want to sneak attack Vecna…

[Maya] Yeah.

[Joe] While he's meditating.

[Maya] …while he's meditating.

[Joe] All the vines and stuff are VFX. So there was like little bits of tape where we should step. 

[Maya] It was like hopscotch over imaginary vines. 

[Joe] I think the three of us all interacted with it in a different way, which was great.

[Maya] Yeah.

[Joe] You saw that in the scene.

[Maya] You can see that.

[Joe] Which is fun.

[Maya] Yeah.

[Joe] All this gear was so heavy.

[Maya] So heavy.

[Joe] Like the flak jacket I'm wearing. 

[Maya] I feel like this season, we were always so hot.

[Joe] Or freezing.

[Maya] Or freezing. Our clothes were not appropriate for any weather.

[Maya] It took a long time to figure out the earthquake acting. I was particularly bad at it because I've never experienced an earthquake.

[rumbling] 

[Maya] So I would just, like, overly shake parts. Like my…I would, like, go like that.

[Joe] Yes.

[all panting]

[intense synth music playing]

[suspenseful music playing] 

[Joe] How'd you enjoy that? 

[Maya] My main body was selling the pullback. 'Cause with this rope, the pullback. But then I remember really feeling like I was an idiot 'cause I didn't have anything on my arm. So I was just flinging my arms against the wall.

[Joe] Right. 

[Maya] I'm not very strong and had to hold them there.

[yelps] Steve! Nancy!

[tentacle trills, shrieks]

[Joe] That's close to your hand. I was worried about that on the day. 

[Maya] It's scary 'cause you have to sell that you're hitting really hard. 

[Joe] Also, the axe would bend. At the end of the takes, it'd be like…

[Maya] Floppy. This isn't the day that the axe…

[Joe] Yep. This is that day. It was supposed to be like it gets pulled to the wall, but into the lens.

[Maya] You were doing amazing axe work.

[Joe] Axe work.

[Maya] Swung the axe really hard and it slid out your hand.

[Joe] Yeah, and the butt.

[Maya] Went directly in the camera. 

[Joe] Through this filter, into the front. The shot was amazing. They had the whole thing on playback. 

[Maya] They were upset the camera was broken. 

[Joe] Yeah. That is like I'm wearing a harness underneath my jacket and they have holes cut in the back of the thing.

[Maya] Yeah.

[Joe] And they attach it to clips, and then it's like act like you're getting pulled up by your neck.

[suspenseful music playing]

[screams] 

[Joe] Natalia's actually one of the most brutal because she's at an angle on the wall. 

[Maya] You guys had to hang, and so did other people, with this vine stuff have to hang on the wall. 

[Joe] Oh, yeah. I guess you were—

[Maya] It was hard to get you guys up there. So they would just leave you up there.

[Joe] Yeah, hours.

[laughs]

[Maya] Days.

[Joe] Oh, man.

[Joe] That was a beautiful set.

[Maya] Gorgeous. 

[Joe] That set is really cool. It looks amazing.

[Maya] The attic. It was interesting and more complicated than I thought because we had to do a swap where we actually lit a rag on fire.

[theme music playing] 

[Maya] Then the rag disappeared, then you threw the cocktail.

[Joe] Right.

[Maya] Then we had to throw the cocktail.

[Joe] Oh, yeah.

[Joe] Good throw, dude. Good throw.

[Maya] Thanks. Guns are really intense. But Natalia handled it. She just focused and listened. There was-- It felt really safe. And then she just crushed it.

[Maya] Oh, this is the best!

[Joe] This day! Nat! Yeah!

[Maya exclaims] Look at that face. It really does fire back into your chest like a gun.

[Joe] It was loud. 

[Maya] They're cutting into it here. But as a oner, it is extraordinary, her, like, grace and confidence. Then when her eye catches the lens and she just focuses in, and it's the death blow on Vecna. Yeah, it's so awesome. Oh my God, look at that face. 

[Joe] She's got some major Sigourney Weaver from Alien going on.

[Maya] She really does.

[Joe] Yeah, she looks awesome.

[Maya] Yeah, she looks amazing.

[howls]

[Joe] I want to watch more.
