Sometimes, if you make fun of one of your parents, you get grounded. And sometimes, you team up with your dad to create a television show. The latter situation helped inspire the new comedy Unstable, which turns John Owen Lowe’s social media trolling of his famous father, Rob Lowe, into a workplace sitcom.
Now you can watch the first trailer for the series, which features quick-witted father-son banter, dramatic tech company politics and butt stuff. (Not so much “stuff” as much as Rob Lowe’s butt.) Check out the trailer above.

Co-created by the Lowes and comedy veteran Victor Fresco — the man behind Better Off Ted and Santa Clarita Diet — Unstable follows successful biotech entrepreneur Ellis Dragon (Rob Lowe) as he struggles to regain his footing following the death of his wife. His son Jackson (John Owen Lowe) returns home to help save the family company from impending disaster, as Ellis’ employees continue to work on their potentially world-changing technology.
It’s hard for Jackson to escape his father’s shadow, especially when he’s dealing with a probable narcissist like Ellis. That father-son relationship, though occasionally tense, is hopefully just the thing that will save Ellis from emotional free fall. In the video above, the Lowes share exactly how Jackson and Ellis’ on-screen dynamic matches their off-screen connection.

“Working with Johnny is painful,” jokes the elder Lowe. But he’s not the only one with quips to spare — says John Owen, “I spent a good deal of my youth keeping him humble. It was a significantly large task.”
Check out Unstable when it premieres March 30 on Netflix.
Well, there’s formidable CEO Anna (Sian Clifford), who’s been by Ellis’ side since the beginning; brilliant scientists and best friends Luna (Rachel Marsh) and Ruby (Emma Ferreira); and Jackson’s childhood friend and project manager Malcolm (Aaron Branch). You can learn more about the gang here. Can they continue their groundbreaking biotechnology research while their boss kinda loses it?
