The world’s favorite gentleman thief is on the other side of the law in his new buddy cop comedy, The Takedown. Omar Sy, aka. the most charming con man in all of France in Lupin, plays one half of a crime-solving police team with fellow French superstar Laurent Lafitte (Elle) as they investigate a small drug deal that turns into a dangerous, high-level criminal conspiracy.
The Takedown has an unlikely pair of policemen, freewheeling Ousmane Diakité (Sy) and by-the-books François Monge (Lafitte), team up for an investigation that quickly expands in scope. As you can see from the first trailer for the film, it’s a classic action comedy — heavy on the action.
The minute-plus look includes nail-biting cliffside car chases, motorcycle chases, even go-kart chases — a lot of chase scenes in this movie, really — along with some quality banter. Because what’s a buddy cop movie without some excellent banter?
The Takedown comes from Lupin and Now You See Me director Louis Leterrier and hits Netflix worldwide on May 6. It’s a follow-up to the 2012 film On the Other Side of the Tracks, which had Sy and Lafitte as the two mismatched cops investigating a murder.
