Fancy a Game of Chess? ‘The Queen's Gambit’ Has You Covered

Take on Beth in a new game based on the series.

    June 10, 2022

If you spent the entire time watching The Queen’s Gambit thinking to yourself, “I could beat Beth,” well, then you’re weird! She’s so good at chess! But now, you’ve finally got the chance to prove yourself. As part of Geeked Week, Netflix’s budding games section is adding a Queen’s Gambit game to its lineup. You might be asking, “Isn’t a Queen’s Gambit game just, well, chess?” Yes — and no.

The Queen’s Gambit Chess comes from Ripstone Games, the creators of Chess Ultra. Like that game, it takes place in a gorgeous 3D environment, but here, your choices of locale include Queen’s Gambit settings like Beth’s house or the Mariposa Hotel. On top of that, Beth herself will offer tips and challenges.

Whether you’re a chess expert or just as new to it as young Beth, The Queen’s Gambit Chess has something to offer. “We’ve set out to create a ‘love letter to The Queen’s Gambit’ and a new benchmark for chess on mobile by channeling our own love of the show, our years of experience creating successful simulations and the incredible creativity of our team,” said Ripstone creative director and co-founder Phil Gaskell. “We’re making a game that I know fans of the limited series are going to love and that truly offers something for chess players of every level.”

The Queen’s Gambit Chess is coming soon to Netflix, available for iOS or Android.

Geeked Week is a celebration of Netflix’s immersive slate of storytelling across sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, anime and more. Check out the full schedule here. For more, follow Netflix Geeked on Twitter.
