Theo James leads a new series inspired by the 2019 movie.

    Nov. 4, 2022

Press your double-breasted suit and shine those brogues because it’s time to step back into the world of The Gentlemen. Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film is getting the series treatment, with Theo James leading an eight-episode journey into the messy underground politics of upper-class weed farms.

James plays Eddie Horniman, the estranged son of an aristocrat who inherits the family estate only to realize that it’s sitting on top of the biggest weed farm in Europe. Joining him are Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Peter Serafinowicz and veteran on-screen crime lords Giancarlo Esposito and Vinnie Jones, who starred in Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.

Don’t expect Colin Farrell and his snazzy plaid tracksuit to make an appearance, however. While the new series operates in the world of The Gentlemen film, it won’t feature the original characters.

Ritchie will direct the two first episodes of the series and will also serve as creator, executive producer and co-writer with Matthew Read. “The world of The Gentlemen is a little bit of me,” he told Netflix. “I’m thrilled that with Netflix, Miramax and Moonage, we have this opportunity to inhabit it once again. We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories, and I’m excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast.”

The series starts filming in November 2022. Celebrate by revisiting The Gentlemen, now streaming on Netflix.
