Spiderhead is a sci-fi movie about an inscrutable penitentiary with curiously lax rules — the inmates even seem to have the freedom to accept or reject all commands by saying or not saying “acknowledge” — and endless drug trials that aim to replicate human emotions to giggle-inducing, and horrifying, effect. While Spiderhead leader Steve Abnesti, played by Chris Hemsworth, won’t spill all the secrets of his pharmaceutical kingdom, you can get to know everything about the film’s cast. The all-star crew is made up of heavy hitters like Hemsworth and his clinical subjects, Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett. 

Chris Hemsworth as Steve Abnesti

Moviegoers are used to seeing Hemsworth as the most fun loving of all the Avengers, the hammer-wielding Asgardian god Thor. In Spiderhead, the Australian actor plays American pharmaceutical businessman Steve Abnesti, the shadowy boss and lead scientist of the Spiderhead facility.

Miles Teller as Jeff

This is Teller’s summer, and we’re all just living in it. Teller co-leads Spiderhead as Jeff, an inmate at the high-tech penitentiary. Teller — who broke out with The Spectacular Now, Whiplash and Project X — is also in Top Gun: Maverick and plays lead in The Godfather making-of series The Offer.

Jurnee Smollett as Lizzy

Like Teller, Smollett plays a prisoner/subject at the Spiderhead facility. Smollett’s Lizzy finds herself trapped between the rising conflicts at Spiderhead. Smollett also appears in Lovecraft Country, as Letitia “Leti” Lewis, and as the Black Canary in Birds of Prey.

Mark Paguio as Verlaine

Meet Spiderhead’s breakout star. The psychological thriller is Paguio’s first major project. He portrays Verlaine, the awestruck and attentive assistant to Steve, and like any good underling, he believes in his boss’ vision. Paguio previously had a role in The Unusual Suspects, a women-led crime caper.

Tess Haubrich as Heather

Haubrich appears in Spiderhead as Heather and shares some of the film’s most memorable scenes with Teller. The Australian actor has appeared in various sci-fi projects, including The Wolverine and Alien: Covenant. But Netflix fans may remember her from the Australian original series Pine Gap, a spy thriller.
