From the very first moments of Snowflake Mountain, it’s clear the producers are pulling a switcheroo on its unsuspecting contestants. The mollycoddled cast heads to the English wilderness expecting to be put up in a glam villa to star in a fun-filled reality show. Instead, they’re forced to test their survival skills under the watchful eyes of ex-military turned survivalists Matt Tate and Joel Graves. Tears are shed while their mettle is tested as the group chases self-reliance and a $50,000 prize. Now they’re filling us in on exactly how their trip up Snowflake Mountain changed their lives.
Spoilers ahead for Snowflake Mountain, climbers.
One of the first sentences out of Deandra’s mouth upon arriving at Snowflake Mountain is, “I need my lip gloss. I need my highlighter and my contour.” And she went on to win the entire competition. Fast-forward to the present, and Deandra can still appreciate some good glam. The Snowflake Mountain champ has moved in to her own apartment and co-opened hair and makeup studio BeauDEEland with her best friend, Shea. “I’ve been doing makeup for eight years, so it’s great to finally have a mini home for it,” Deandra tells Tudum.
She still most appreciates the friendships she made during the series — and continues to cultivate them today. “It’s easy to be misunderstood. To talk to people who just ‘get it’ made us truly grow deep connections,” Deandra says. “They’ve become some of my best friends. I’m actually meeting up with Devon tonight. If Liam lived in New York, I am almost positive I’d be with him daily.”
Sunny’s Snowflake Mountain evolution was so powerful, he finished as the competition’s runner-up. He’s taken that growth and is using it to inspire his next project. “Since filming, I’ve been working on getting funding for a doc about victims of the alternative music scene in the 2000s and 2010s,” he tells Tudum. “I learned to follow through on any and everything without fear of failure.”
As the Snowflake Mountain finale reveals, Liam left the mountain and “landed his dream job.” Today, he’s working at global fashion brand In the Style. Liam has also moved out of his family home and is living his “best adult life” two hours away. He credits the series with inspiring the big change. “Whilst filming, we don’t have our phones or contact to the outside world, so we just have to make decisions ourselves where usually I always run to my family to make decisions for me,” he tells Tudum. “I’ve been really maturing and navigating my way through adulthood.”
Liam remains close to his co-stars. There’s even a popping group chat. “We speak on a daily basis, and of course I meet up with my Brit babe, Rae. We’re super close — she’s a friend for life.”
It’s no wonder Liam and Rae are such good friends — they took the same lesson from Snowflake Mountain: “I gained the confidence to stand on my own two feet. Having time away from my phone gave me time to think and focus about what I want from my life,” Rae tells Tudum. “Discipline equals freedom.”
These days, she’s using that freedom to create a happy life with her boyfriend, with whom she just moved into a house. “We’ve made it a home and have even taken the dog,” Rae continues. “I speak to Matt, Joel and my fellow Snowflakes every day. We plan to meet up next month so I can finally have my first s’more.” Come November, Rae is even planning to accept Joel’s offer to celebrate her first Thanksgiving with his family.
Carl suffers with a knee injury throughout Snowflake Mountain, made worse by the final climbing challenge of the series when he throws his pack, dislocating his shoulder and further harming his knee. This forces him out of the competition and into an airlift. Carl says his leg has since gotten a lot better since the incident.
“Life has honestly been a journey for me. A lot of ups and downs, but I always pushed through,” Carl tells Tudum. “Everyone has been supportive. I’ve kept in contact with every single person from the cast. I love them!”
Although Solomon didn’t make it to the end of Snowflake Mountain, he’s still holding his experiences close. “My favorite memory happened off camera, when Sunny [and I] had to burn our clothes at night just to stay warm and keep the fire burning in our tent. It was so cold,” he tells Tudum. “The show made me complain less and be grateful for everything I have. I don’t take anything for granted anymore.”
Now, he wants to share that feeling with the rest of the world. Solomon recently became an ordained minister and is focusing on creating Christian content. “Book me if you’re getting married or having a funeral,” he says.
Darriea left the rocky hills of Snowflake Mountain in favor of sand and waves. After wrapping the series, she has moved close to the ocean to focus on writing and sustainable fashion. “I’m renting an art studio and recently published a book, Good Girl, for which I did a soft launch at an art and music festival,” Darriea tells Tudum. “I’ve spent a lot of time traveling — on my own dollar — and selling clothes secondhand.”
After being inspired by “the view from the top of the mountain” during production, ex-perfectionist Darriea feels more “badass” than ever. “[That experience] showed me that on the other side of fear is happiness, love and well-deserved pride from being headstrong and going all in,” she says. “My mom always said I had a failure to launch, and that’s from the fear of failing or looking bad. I learned that it’s OK to fail, as long as I give it my best effort and try again.”
Although Olivia was the first contestant to hitch a ride off the mountain, she’s still in touch with her co-stars, citing Rae as her closest friend from the show. The friendship is a long distance one, as Olivia has moved to Los Angeles and is “spending a lot of time at the beach.”
“I’ve been working and hanging out with friends. I’m feeling really happy and grateful,” Olivia says. “The biggest thing I learned from the show was probably setting boundaries and learning to say no without guilt — to follow my gut and do what is right for me.”
“Since filming ended, I’ve been all-in [with] pro wrestling. I’ve been traveling around the Southeast wrestling just about every weekend,” Randy tells Tudum. When he’s not in the ring, Randy has been spending time with his new girlfriend and their cat, Storm.
“I learned how to be vulnerable during my experience on Snowflake Mountain,” he says. “It really gave me the confidence to commit to my relationships when I came home. Now I’m in a committed relationship.” Randy also opened up to his parents about his passion for wrestling. “They now support me wholeheartedly rather than resent my career choice because I dropped out of school. All in all, I think it’s really helped me learn to be a better person,” he says.
When viewers first meet Devon, she admits she “does like attention.” She’s putting her love for the limelight to good use, telling Tudum, “I’ve moved back to New York City and am looking forward to starting an acting career.” Devon’s excitement for the future is bittersweet, as one of her best friends passed away shortly after Snowflake Mountain filming ceased. She’s using the teachings from the show to deal with her grief. “Life is to be lived, mistakes are to be made and positive vibes should always be shared,” she says. “Love yourself and love the people that make life worth it.”
Francesca has been spending time with Snowflake Mountain pals Devon and Deandra. “I’ve been back to my daily routine,” she tells Tudum. “Pampering myself, traveling and hanging out with my NYC co-star girls.” She also still counts hosts Matt and Joel as part of her “team,” and is still following their guidance. “I gained adaptability and learned how to read the room around me,” Francesca says. “Everyone was so positive and very supportive even though I was the new girl.”
