When a storm hits mid-flight, a heroic pilot is forced to land on an island armed by violent militia — and he’ll do anything to make sure his passengers get home safe. The 2023 action thriller Plane stars Gerard Butler, Mike Colter, and Tony Goldwyn. Directed by Jean-François Richet (Blood Father), the film was written by Charles Cumming (The Day of the Jackal) and J.P. Davis (The Contractor).

Former RAF pilot Brodie Torrance (Butler) is piloting a flight to Japan when the plane is struck by lightning, forcing Torrance to emergency-land on an island in the Philippines. Unfortunately for the passengers and crew, the plane’s comms are shot, and the island is run by dangerous separatists who are armed to the teeth and willing to do anything to defend their territory. So Torrance teams up with Louis (Colter), a former French Foreign Legion fighter and convicted murderer, to protect everyone who was on the flight. The airline gets New York–based crisis manager Scarsdale (Goldwyn) involved, who helps facilitate a rescue operation. Meanwhile the hostile faction is closing in around them, making a clean escape nearly impossible. Can the trio navigate the treacherous terrain to ensure the safety of everyone onboard?

The film takes place on a remote island in the Philippines’ Sulu cluster.
