In People We Meet on Vacation, the first movie adaptation of author Emily Henry’s best-selling novels, the romance between Poppy (Emily Bader) and Alex (Tom Blyth) unfolds over a span of 12 years. The opposites-attract duo start off as unlikely friends after meeting on a road trip home from college and soon form a pact that changes their lives forever.
Every summer, no matter where they are, they promise to meet up for an annual trip. As they travel the globe from New Orleans to Spain, they remain seemingly oblivious to what has become obvious to everyone else: that they’re meant to be together.
Just like Poppy and Alex, you may have missed some magical details woven into their love story along the way. But as with any happy ending, we’re here to help you tie them all together once the credits start to roll.

Below, discover six Easter Eggs from People We Meet on Vacation:

1. Poppy and Alex’s New Orleans dance scene, set to Paula Abdul’s “Forever Your Girl,” was inspired by the moves seen in films like Dirty Dancing and Charlie’s Angels.

2. All the scenes of Barcelona, Squamish, British Columbia, and Tuscany were filmed in the Barcelona area. Meanwhile, the iconic city of New Orleans played itself. Poppy and Alex’s trip to the Big Easy was shot on location, as were the scenes in Boston and Ohio. The scenes in New York were filmed in Spain and New Orleans.

3. Harry, the wooden Sasquatch statue that Poppy picks up on vacation in Canada, was made just for the film. Blyth really carried around the 80-pound creature while filming. His name is a nod to the 1980s film Harry and the Hendersons.
4. While the film already boasts a stacked cast, none other than People We Meet on Vacation author Emily Henry makes a surprise cameo. She appears as a guest at Alex’s little brother David’s (Miles Heizer) wedding in Spain.

5. At the start of the film, Poppy sits alone on her beach chair, recreating one half of the book’s now-iconic original cover. As the film closes, Alex joins her, and the book’s cover image — as well as their story — is complete.
6. Wondering what book Alex is reading on the beach at the end of the film? Eagle-eyed viewers will recognize the author as Augustus Everett, a character from another one of Emily Henry’s novels, Beach Read.
People We Meet on Vacation is now streaming, only on Netflix.
