The week of Thanksgiving is finally here: a few days off from work and school, a time to be with family and friends and check out some new movies and TV shows. Whether you prefer your turkey basted and baked or deep-fried and crispy, the days ahead will have something for everyone to dig into.
On the menu this week: Left-Handed Girl, a coming-of-age portrait of a single mother and her two daughters as they return to Taipei to open a stall in a night market. Shih-Ching Tsou directed, produced, and co-wrote (with Sean Baker) the deeply personal film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and is Taiwan’s submission for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards.
Fans of one of Netflix’s most popular TV shows will finally have their cravings sated with a fifth season of Stranger Things. The sci-fi horror series is back in Hawkins for its final episodes, the first batch of which debuts on Wednesday night. (Can’t wait that long? Appease your appetite with the first five minutes of the premiere episode, which brings the action back to where it all began in Season 1 — the Upside Down in 1983.)
