    Dec. 10, 2021

If you’re already done with your holiday shopping because you planned ahead — congrats! If you haven’t started yet and intend on blaming the supply chain, you’re not alone. It’s a stressful time of year for everyone. From traveling to hosting family, this season can feel like a lot. Luckily, the holidays are still a couple weeks away, so now is your calm before the storm. Stream this week’s new releases as you relax — with a little spiked eggnog on the side, of course. Here are four titles to watch this weekend, and if you still want more, check out the full list of this week’s new titles below.

Nicole Byer: BBW (Big Beautiful Weirdo)

Nicole Byer: BBW (Big Beautiful Weirdo) What it is: If you’ve ever gone down a YouTube rabbit hole of watching Karens misbehaving in public, you’ve already got something in common with Nicole Byer. In her first Netflix comedy special, Byer gets down and dirty about everything, from her convincing Harry Potter conspiracy theory to getting a little too drunk on a red-eye flight.

Why you should watch it: Byer’s special feels like catching up with an old friend you haven’t seen since the lockdown. She jokes about microaggressions, ugly people who refuse to wear masks and the time she attended a cat funeral. Her line delivery gives you permission to laugh about the disillusionments in this strange time we’re living in, a much-needed balm after almost two years of a pandemic.

For fans of: Nailed It!, Leslie Jones: Time Machine, Amy Schumer: The Leather Special

Saturday Morning All Star Hits!

Saturday Morning All Star Hits! What it is: Pour yourself a bowl of cereal and get ready to go back in time. This adult animation and live-action hybrid celebrates the campy — and sometimes disturbing — Saturday-morning cartoons of the ’80s and ’90s. From a depressed dinosaur trying to fit into college to ripped animals traveling the galaxy to fight for peace (the irony), each episode feels like a throwback children’s programming block — but for adults.

Why you should watch it: This new series by SNL’s Kyle Mooney infuses adult humor into the aesthetics of ’80s- and ’90s-era children’s entertainment. As a viewer, you can’t help but feel nostalgic and a little comforted. While crude, the show is really an homage to the millennial childhood.

For fans of: Big Mouth, Q-Force, BoJack Horseman

Still Out of My League

Still Out of My League What it is: The sequel to the Italian rom-com Out of My League finds our leading lady, Marta (Ludovica Francesconi), newly single. One would think she’d learned her lesson about stalking hot men and breaking their hearts. Not really. Marta meets Gabriele (Giancarlo Commare) at the park and the two begin dating. When Gabriele moves to Paris for work, Marta meets another hunk, and things go awry from there.

Why you should watch it: Who doesn’t love a messy love triangle? Still Out of My League feels as if Never Have I Ever were set in the universe of Amélie. Marta’s awkwardness pairs well with the whimsical nature of Turin, Italy. If you were a fan of the first installment, the sequel will give you everything and more. Haven’t seen it yet? Make it a double-feature date night.

For fans of: Out of My League, Never Have I Ever, The Half of It

The Unforgivable

The Unforgivable What it is: After being released from prison, Ruth Slater (Sandra Bullock) tries to reacclimate into society. It turns out that getting convicted for murder isn’t something neither you nor the rest of society can just forget. As Ruth struggles to get her life together, she has one thing on her mind: finding the little sister she left behind.

Why you should watch it: Some say that the art of acting was invented by Thespis in ancient Greece. After watching this film, you’ll be convinced that the inventors of drama are none other than Bullock and Viola Davis. There’s a particular scene (yes, that one you probably saw on Twitter) where the two actors get into a full-blown screaming match. Getting yelled at by the Sandra Bullock and Viola Davis? That’s how you know the Netflix subscription is worth it.

For fans of: The Guilty, Lost Girls, Passing
