    “For now.” WTF?

🤐 SPOILER ALERT 🤐

The last two words of the Never Have I Ever series finale come from narrator John McEnroe, who explains that super-smart Sherman Oaks, California, teens Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison) have decided to embark on a real relationship. They’re happily together, maintaining their long-distance love, with Ben attending Columbia University in New York City, and Devi studying at Princeton University in New Jersey — “for now.”

But wait — isn’t Season 4 supposed to be the end? There won’t be a Season 5, right?

Let’s be clear about one thing: Season 4 is, in fact, the end of Never Have I Ever and there will not be a Season 5. According to Ramakrishnan, the words for now hint at what’s to come for the characters of Devi and Ben in the future, not on the show itself. She explains, “ ‘For now’ means, to me, that this is just a moment in time, because the roller-coaster ride of life continues.”

Basically, Ramakrishnan, tells Tudum, “Devi’s still a work in progress. It’s very clear that this is just one of many chapters in a young woman’s life, which is very exciting... Life continues and you have no idea what the fuck is going to happen.”

That said, even though Never Have I Ever is over and there won’t be a Season 5, Lewison would love to do some kind of collaboration in the future. “I don’t know if that means in 10 or 15 years Maitreyi and I agree to do a rom-com together and [creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher] come back,” he says. As for Ben and Devi? “It’s up to interpretation for the audience what happens to Ben and Devi,” Lewison says. “There is a lot of room for interpretation. So I’m looking forward to reading the discourse regarding that on the fan pages and the Reddits and Instagram or whatever else that I can hear from fans.”
