Never have you ever... watched the first two minutes of Never Have I Ever Season 3 before it premieres on Aug. 12. Well, now you can because Tudum is debuting the new season’s opening moments directly below.

Last time we saw Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), she was living the dream she’d always wanted: Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) had shown up like a knight in a shining red Jeep Wrangler to be her date to the winter dance. As they slow danced the night away, Devi’s nemesis turned ex-boyfriend, Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison), stood on the side of the school gym, crushed. After all, Eleanor (Ramona Young) had just told him it hadn’t always been Paxton for Devi. But now... was it too late?
Based on Season 3’s opening sequence, it sure seems like it for the time being. In the clip, Devi and Paxton make their Sherman Oaks High debut as a couple, strutting down the hallway to Josha Daniel’s “Dream of You.”
“Someone check on hell because it has definitely frozen over,” says tennis superstar and trusty narrator John McEnroe, as the duo enter the hallway. “Devi Vishwakumar just walked into school for the first time as Paxton Hall-Yoshida’s girlfriend. And all she had to do was cheat on him, hit him with a car and do all his homework. Harry and Meghan, move over. This is what fairy tales are made of.”

The school’s reaction to the new couple going public varies. Some, like Devi’s friends Eleanor and Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), hype their girl up, whereas Paxton’s best friend, Trent (Benjamin Norris), rolls his eyes in disapproval. And a trio of popular mean girls suspect that Devi and Paxton are only together because “she’s just a huge slut.” In reality, though, their courtship has been very PG-13.

Slut-shaming is just one of several obstacles Devi will face this season. It just goes to show that even if she’s feeling truly confident for the first time with Paxton on her arm, “self-confidence” is really what she’s after this season, according to Never Have I Ever co-creator Lang Fisher.
“We wanted to show that it doesn’t matter if you have everything you’ve ever wanted on the outside if you don’t believe in yourself on the inside. Devi’s greatest hurdle this season — like many teen girls’ — is to learn to love herself,” Fisher previously told Tudum.
