Fall is on its way, and with it is coming all of the typical fixtures of the season: cool weather, candy, cavities and, of course, New York Comic Con. Netflix is bringing multiple projects to the long-running convention — which runs from Oct. 6–9 at the Javits Center — and they’re all at least a little bit spooky. Whether you’re stopping by the convention center for one day or sticking it out for the full event, there’s something for everyone, from a flagship panel featuring Wednesday herself to the stop-motion creepy crawlies of Wendell & Wild. Below, we’ve laid out an itinerary for the discerning Comic Con attendee.
Thursday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m., Room 405
It’s not exactly a midnight premiere, but Mike Flanagan’s The Midnight Club will have its world premiere at NYCC, complete with a post-screening panel featuring Flanagan, Trevor Macy (executive producer), Leah Fong (EP/co-creator) and cast members Iman Benson, Igby Rigney, Adia, Aya Furukawa, Sauriyan Sapkota, Annarah Cymone, Chris Sumpter and Ruth Codd. An adaptation of the Christopher Pike novel of the same name, the new series follows a group of hospice patients who meet at midnight to tell scary stories. There’s no word yet on whether the cast will be telling any scary stories of their own, but with horror auteur Flanagan on hand, it would be a safe bet he has something spooky up his sleeve. Don’t worry: You’ll be free before midnight.
The Midnight Club hits Netflix on Oct. 7.
Saturday, Oct. 8, 3:45 p.m., Room 401
Much like the newly reappeared characters at the center of its vanished-plane mystery, the canceled-too-soon Manifest is back. The beloved series makes the leap to Netflix for its final season, with plenty to wrap up. The cast and creator Jeff Rake will be on hand to discuss how everything will go for the crew and passengers of Montego Air Flight 828. Keep an eye out for unexpected turbulence.
Manifest Season 4 lands on Netflix on Nov. 4.
Saturday, Oct. 8, 5:15 p.m., Room 401
Stop-motion auteur Henry Selick (Coraline) makes his long-awaited return with Wendell & Wild, a raucous and punk-infused animated fairy tale featuring the voices of Lyric Ross, Angela Bassett, Ving Rhames and Sam Zelaya. Selick will make an appearance at NYCC for an exclusive conversation and very special look at the upcoming film, co-written by Jordan Peele and himself. Selick practically invented a spookier type of stop-motion aesthetic with The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Wendell & Wild promises just as many thrills and chills with its story of a young orphan struggling with her demons — literally (their names are Wendell and Wild, and they’re voiced by Keegan-Michael Key and Peele).
Wendell & Wild hits Netflix on Oct. 28 and select theaters on Oct. 21.
Saturday, Oct. 8, 7:45 p.m., Empire Stage
Get ready to give this panel some snaps: Wednesday is on her way. The supernatural new mystery from showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar makes its way to the Empire Stage on Oct. 8, and the pair is bringing along some serious talent. From breakout star Jenna Ortega to seasoned vets Gwendoline Christie and Luis Guzmán, the panel is packed with almost as many magical presences — and surprises — as Nevermore Academy, the mysterious boarding school that Wednesday gets squirreled away to in the new series. There’s no word yet on whether everyone’s favorite severed hand, Thing, will be making an appearance. His crowded social calendar could cause conflict; that guy is always in the tabloids holding hand with some new young starlet!
Wednesday is coming to Netflix this fall.
