In the world of My Hero Academia, almost everyone has a “quirk” — a superpower that marks them for a heroic future. That future just got a little brighter, with the news that the hit manga is getting a live-action adaptation from Netflix and Legendary Entertainment. Screenwriter Joby Harold (Army of the Dead, Obi-Wan Kenobi) is working on the script; Shinsuke Sato (Alice in Borderland) will direct. No word yet on what their quirks might be.
My Hero Academia follows Izuku Midoriya (AKA Deku), a young high school student with an unfortunate flaw: Unlike 80% of the world’s population, he has no quirk. In a world of superpowered schools and larger-than-life heroes, it’s a death sentence for his social life. But when Izuku has a chance encounter with top-ranked hero All Might, he might just have a shot at achieving his greatest dream: a spot at the prestigious U.A. Academy.

Written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi, more than 50 million copies of the My Hero Academia manga are currently in circulation; it remains a weekly fixture in Shueisha’s weekly Shōnen Jump anthology. The series has also been adapted into a popular anime.
Toho Co., Ltd. will distribute the My Hero Academia film theatrically in Japan. Keep an eye on the horizon for more news: Izuku and his entire superpowered world are coming soon to Netflix.
