Prepare to reenter the mind of Mo Amer. The comedian and writer best known for stand-up specials like Mo Amer: Mohammed in Texas and Mo Amer: The Vagabond is getting his own scripted comedy series. 

Created and executive produced by Amer and his Ramy co-star Ramy Youssef, Mo is a semi-autobiographical series inspired by Amer’s life as a Palestinian refugee growing up in Houston. Amer plays Mo Najjar, a man who’s learning to adapt to his new world as he embarks on the path to US citizenship. He’s trying to reconcile his two cultures and three languages, all while navigating the complicated and seemingly never-ending immigration process. He loves his family and tries to provide for them — even if they don’t like how he does it.

Speaking of family: Amer will be joined on-screen by his TV fam, including Narcos: Mexico’s Teresa Ruiz as Mo’s committed but fiercely independent girlfriend, Maria; Omar Elba as the older, romantic, cat-loving brother Sameer; and Farah Bsieso as Mo and Sameer’s mom, Yusra, who’s resilient and spiritual but also loves The Price Is Right. Tobe Nwigwe rounds out the cast as Nick, Mo’s oldest, best and most loyal friend.

Each of the show’s eight episodes will be about 30 minutes long, and the show is being co–executive produced by A24, which has also made shows like Ali Wong: Don Wong, Eric Andre: Legalize Everything and John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch. 

Mo will premiere on August 24.
