Meg Ryan is returning to the director’s chair with the upcoming Netflix adaptation of A Lady’s Guide to Selling Out. Based on the novel of the same name by Sally Franson, the film centers around former English major and “hot mess” Casey Pendergast as she navigates a new career and the even bigger challenge of figuring out what path she’s meant to follow.
Ryan will be joined by writer Jenny Rachel Weiner, and the movie will be produced by Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff and Kim Hodgert.
The original 2019 novel has been compared to pop culture favorites like Younger, The Bold Type and The Devil Wears Prada, and was a Minnesota Book Awards finalist.
A Lady’s Guide to Selling Out will be Ryan’s second film directing credit; previously, she directed — and starred in — Ithaca in 2015. Weiner is a screenwriter and playwright whose productions continue to be performed around the world.
