Let’s Have a Jennifer Coolidge Film Festival

Say “hi” to the Emmy-winning actor across a variety of movie and TV roles.

    March 5, 2024

You may have first encountered Jennifer Coolidge as Stifler’s Mom in American Pie or as ditzy beautician Paulette in Legally Blonde. Or maybe your introduction came during her rise as a character actor in the early 2000s — but you’d have to live in a bougie resort far, far away to not have been delighted by the Emmy winner over the years.

Although she’s well known for her comedic roles across film and TV, Coolidge has also starred in spooky TV shows and lent her voice to family-friendly animated flicks. Her most recent is We Have a Ghost, a comedic horror film, which is streaming now. While you queue up those unearthly laughs, take a look at every Coolidge role available on Netflix.

When Kevin (Jahi Di’Allo Winston) moves into a new home, he soon learns he’s not alone: The house is inhabited by a ghost named Ernest (David Harbour). Kevin decides to launch a YouTube channel for his new friend, and the duo become an internet sensation — but they unknowingly draw the attention of the CIA. This spooky adventure film is fun for the whole family. The cast includes Tig Notaro, Erica Ash, Anthony Mackie and Coolidge, who plays a TV medium.

The Watcher

ERIC LIEBOWITZ/NETFLIX

What started as an unsettling true story has now received a seriously creepy Ryan Murphy television series adaptation. In The Watcher, Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale star as Nora and Dean Brannock, a New Jersey couple who are harassed through letters when they move into a new home. Calling himself “the Watcher,” the stalker threatens to kidnap the Brannocks’ two children — and that’s just in the first episode! Taking on a more dramatic role, Coolidge stars as Karen Calhoun, a realtor and Nora’s frenemy. (And prepared to get scared all over again when the series returns for Season 2.)

Single All The Way

PHILIPPE BOSSE/NETFLIX

The Christmas love story gets a fresh take in Single All the Way. Tired of his family asking if he’s found someone, Peter (Michael Urie) asks his best friend Nick (Philemon Chambers) to pretend they’re dating for a holiday at home in New Hampshire. But their plan is foiled when Peter’s mom (Kathy Najimy) sets her son up with her spin instructor (Luke Macfarlane), and things take an unexpected turn. Coolidge stars as Peter’s aunt Sandy in this sweet rom-com. Watch a super cut of her role here:

Arlo the Alligator Boy

Coolidge as Stucky the alligator hunter.

Half-human, half-alligator Arlo Beauregard is abandoned as a baby and raised in a swamp by an adoptive mother. When he’s a teenager, he decides he wants to find his biological father. On his quest to New York City, Arlo meets Bertie and they become fast friends. The two encounter a number of friends who join their gang — and foes, such as Coolidge’s character, Stucky, who’s an alligator hunter. Arlo is voiced by singer Michael J. Woodard (who starred in American Idol Season 16), and Bertie is voiced by Mary Lambert. Coolidge reprises her character in the series I Heart Arlo, which continues Arlo’s story following the feature film.

Bobbleheads The Movie

Coolidge as Binky looking in the mirror.

Think of Bobbleheads as like Toy Story, but if all the toys were, well… bobbleheads. When their humans leave the house unattended, the bobbleheads — voiced by Karen Fukuhara, Brenda Song, Julian Sands and Khary Payton — must defend the home by any means necessary. That’s because two intruders named Binky (Coolidge) and Earl (Luke Wilson) are trying to steal a valuable baseball bobblehead. This animated film also stars Cher as her (animated) self.

Mascots

Mascots is the most recent film in the run of mockumentaries — which began with This Is Spinal Tap and includes Best in Show and A Mighty Wind — from screenwriter Christopher Guest. Here, Guest tackles the world of sports mascots during the World Mascot Association’s championship for the Gold Fluffy Award. Coolidge joins a stellar cast that includes Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Ed Begley Jr. and Chris O’Dowd. Guest also stars as Corky St. Clair, a character who first appeared in Waiting for Guffman
