If you’re one of the many, many hopeless romantics who fell head over heels for Alice Oseman’s beloved graphic novels (or if you just need a cozy love story to fill the Young Royals–shaped hole in your heart), get ready to squeal and swoon over Heartstopper. Yes, the long-awaited eight-part series is finally coming this spring. And if you’re beyond eager to meet Charlie and Nick, allow these first-look photos to introduce you to our awkward, sweet heroes.
Oseman first started publishing Heartstopper as a webcomic in 2016. The series follows two side characters from her 2014 novel Solitaire — neurotic, kind-hearted Charlie and thoughtful rugby star Nick — as they form an unlikely friendship that turns into a slow-burn romance. The comic amassed a hyper-loyal following, and the first of four physical volumes was published in 2018.
Like the comic, the Heartstopper series will also follow Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie’s (Joe Locke) friends and family as they “navigate the ever-relatable journey of self-discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves,” per the logline. These characters include Charlie’s pals Tao (William Gao) and Elle (Yasmin Finney) and couple Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell). You can sneak a peek of them below.

Up next, we’ll hopefully get a look at Charlie’s sister Tori (Jenny Walser) — and maybe a shot of Nick and Charlie together? This spring can’t come soon enough.
