All the great love stories have the line. “You had me at hello.” “I’ll have what she’s having.” “As you wish.” Heartstopper, Netflix’s queer teen romance series, achieved all that knee-weakening emotion with a single word: hi. No greeting has ever dripped with so much meaning.
Throughout Season 1 of the rom-com, protagonists Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) volley it back and forth at each other — “Hi.” “Hi.” — slowly turning into the human personification of the heart eyes emoji. When Nick and Charlie share hi’s just before their first kiss, fans can feel the sparkle heart themselves.

It’s impossible not to notice how often Charlie and Nick say hi to each other — or the very liberal use of the salutation by their nearest and dearest, like Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell). But by the time one might realize they should have been keeping count all along, they’re probably far too deep into the series to know for sure. Luckily, Tudum is here to save the day. Watch the video above for every single hi in Heartstopper, complete with a handy-dandy counter. You’ll never say hi the same way again.
