Dark secrets unearthed from the past, twists that lead to other twists that lead to even more twists, and shady characters who inexplicably connect to one another — these are the hallmarks of a Harlan Coben project. The New Jersey–based author has published more than 30 thriller novels, with plots perfectly suited for the small screen.
Because Coben serves as executive producer on all of them, the scripts for these series are just as enigmatic and captivating as the source material. There are some differences — mainly, that most of his books are set in his home state of New Jersey, while many of the adaptations are set abroad. Thanks to Netflix’s ongoing collaboration with Coben, there are plenty of his mysteries for you to get lost in — and more still to come.
Here’s what you need to know about the entire Harlan Coben collection of titles available to stream right now.

Investigative journalist Ema Garay (Soledad Villamil) has built a successful career at the magazine Lado Bariloche by catching criminals who evade the justice system, but her latest story hits closer to home. As she develops a personal relationship with Leo Mercer (Alberto Ammann), a social worker who helps with her investigation into the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl, Ema gets a tip that makes him the primary suspect. The entire justice system is gunning for Leo, but Ema might be the only person who believes he’s innocent. Her pursuit of the truth unravels a web of interconnected mysteries and suspects that puts her life in danger. This thriller, set in Bariloche, Argentina, is the first Latin American adaptation of Coben’s work.

The Harlan Coben formula is intact with Fool Me Once but has the addition of fabulous coats, thanks to Michelle Keegan’s wardrobe (and social media’s obsession with it). Keegan plays Maya Stern, a former military pilot whose sister and husband were both killed in the past year. She’s suffering from PTSD from these deaths as well as a traumatic incident from her time in service. Things escalate when she sees her late husband, Joe (Richard Armitage, playing his third Coben character), talking to their baby on nanny cam footage. When she tries to investigate if her husband could still be alive, she runs into dead ends at every corner — but she won’t let the police, Joe’s wealthy family, or even her own grief stop her.

One of Coben’s earlier novels, Gone for Good has all the trademarks readers and viewers of his work have come to expect: tragedy, time jumps, disappearances, and mysteries. In the French language series, Guillaume Lucchesi (Finnegan Oldfield) spends a summer at his family’s estate on the French Riviera in June 2010 when he witnesses the murder of his girlfriend (who’s also his next-door neighbor) and his older brother. Ten years later, on the eve of his mother’s funeral, Guillaume proposes to his now-girlfriend Judith (Nailia Harzoune). She says, “I’m already yours” — which isn’t exactly a “yes” — and then disappears the next day. Guillaume is dropped into a mystery about her past when he tries to figure out where she went. This series only spans five episodes, so he’ll have to figure it out quickly.

Although not a true sequel, Hold Tight is set in the same world and timeline as The Woods, so there are returning characters. Paweł Kopiński (Grzegorz Damięcki) and his now-wife, Laura (Agnieszka Grochowska), are back but not quite as involved in the central storyline. They’re connected via Paweł’s daughter, Kaja (Agata Labno), whose boyfriend, Adam Barczyk (Krzysztof Oleksyn), goes missing after their friend Igor dies. (It’s like history repeating itself in this Warsaw community!) Adam’s mother, Anna (Magdalena Boczarska), will go to great lengths to find her son.

Coben’s novels have been translated into more than 40 languages and are popular worldwide, so it’s not surprising that many of his adaptations have been filmed internationally, including The Innocent. This Spanish mystery stars Mario Casas as Mateo Vidal, a law school student who gets pulled into a fight at a club that leads to a man’s death. After serving four years in prison, Mateo finishes his law degree and meets Olivia Costa (Alexandra Jiménez), whom he ultimately marries. Although Mateo is trying to move on with his life, he keeps experiencing setbacks and tragedies. Aura Garrido also stars in The Innocent as Detective Lorena Ortiz, whose own tragedies may find her connected to a new case involving Mateo.

Sometimes our darkest secrets can be the most destructive. This crime thriller, set in Warsaw, Poland, follows Greta (Maria Dębska), whose life is upended when a disturbing photo mysteriously surfaces that may be connected to the disappearance of her husband, Jacek (Cezary Łukaszewicz). As Greta digs into what happened, she confronts buried truths, past traumas, and her own hazy memory to save her husband. But she might also find that her marriage isn’t what she thought it was.

Missing You has everything needed for an addicting, enthralling watch: a man with a mysterious past, a woman on a mission, and so many secrets. Rosalind Eleazar (Slow Horses, Harlots) stars as Detective Kat Donovan, whose fiancé, Josh (played by Top Boy’s Ashley Walters), disappeared 11 years ago. Leave it to a dating app to drudge up trouble: When Kat is swiping through profiles one day, she sees Josh’s photo, and this sends her into investigation mode to discover what really happened all those years ago — but she’s not sure who she can trust. Like many Harlan Coben shows, Missing You is set in the UK and stars Richard Armitage (who also appears in Fool Me Once, The Stranger, and Stay Close).

Adapted from his 2019 book of the same name, this eight-episode series centers on Simon Greene (James Nesbitt), a man who, from the outside, seems to have a picture-perfect life. It all comes crumbling down when his eldest daughter, Paige (Ellie de Lange), suddenly runs away. Complicating the situation even further: The person she was last seen with is found dead. Simon’s search for Paige takes him into a dangerous underworld, revealing deep secrets that could tear his family apart forever. The cast of the mystery includes Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver, Alfred Enoch, and Lucian Msamati.

In this eight-part limited series, Michael C. Hall stars as Tom Delaney, a pediatric surgeon, father of two, and widower. It’s been a year since his wife’s death, but life is becoming even more difficult for him: He already has a strained relationship with his daughter, Jenny (Amy James-Kelly), and things only get worse when she finds out he’s dating their family friend Sophie Mason (Amanda Abbington). When Jenny and her boyfriend go missing, Tom takes matters into his own hands to try to track his daughter down, but in the process, he discovers a wealth of secrets about friends and neighbors in their small British suburb.

Richard Armitage stars in this eight-part British series about three seemingly random people who are connected by an unsolved case. Armitage plays Ray Levine, a photographer who inadvertently captures an image of a shadowy figure running in the woods. James Nesbitt plays Michael Broome, a detective investigating the disappearance of a young man named Carlton Flynn. He quickly realizes that this disappearance happened exactly 17 years after another missing persons case he worked on but couldn’t solve. Finally, Cush Jumbo plays Megan Pierce, a mother of three daughters who’s finally marrying her fiancé after 16 years together. At first, these three seem to have unconnected storylines, but you’ll begin to put the pieces together as to how they intersect — and how they are linked to the missing persons case from 17 years ago.

The Stranger revolves around a mysterious young woman in a baseball cap — the titular “Stranger” (Hannah John-Kamen) — who reveals secrets to people with dire consequences. She first approaches Adam Price (Richard Armitage, in another Coben role) at his son’s soccer game and suggests he check his children’s DNA. After Adam confronts his wife, Corinne (Dervla Kirwan), about her potential infidelity, she disappears. The Stranger continues to approach others in town and reveal secrets that damn those closest to them. As more is exposed, each new detail seems to be related to the last and will have you questioning what’s really going on in this community.

Split between two time periods, The Woods is a six-part Polish series. The first time period is August 1994 at a summer camp (in the woods, naturally) where Paweł Kopiński (Hubert Miłkowski) is a chaperone and his younger sister, Kamila (Martyna Byczkowska), is a camper. The second timeline is September 2019, when we learn that Paweł (now played by Grzegorz Damięcki) has become a prosecutor in Warsaw, is a recently widowed single father, and has reconnected with his camp sweetheart, Laura (Agnieszka Grochowska). When a body is discovered surrounded by newspaper clippings all about Paweł, he’s called in to identify the deceased. It’s then that we learn that at that 1994 summer camp, two people were murdered and two went missing — one being Kamila. As Paweł investigates the case and digs deeper, he discovers his sister may still be out there. Just when you think you’ve figured out what’s going on in The Woods, it changes course and keeps you guessing.
