Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness is basically JVN’s ultimate dream: Asking the best and the brightest about anything and everything they’ve wanted to learn. But getting to do so casually, alongside your famous friends? Sounds as fabulous as their signature blowout.
Based on their podcast of the same name, each Getting Curious episode depicts Van Ness diving into a topic they’ve been curious about; snacks, bugs and hair are all subject to exploration. But Van Ness doesn’t shy away from asking for help, especially from their well-known acquaintances, who take part in everything from short skits to long, emotional discussions.
In case you're curious, here’s an extensive list of all the celebrities with cameos on the show, including everyone from a U.S. congresswoman to two Olympic medalists.

This RuPaul’s Drag Race alum has a new gig: co-hosting Episode 1’s Bug Gala red carpet alongside none other than JVN themself. Only the most exceptional insects are invited to show off their exoskeletons, like the ironclad beetle and the black widow.

Celebrity chef and Top Chef judge Padma Lakshmi joins JVN in Episode 1 to taste some insect-flavored recipes from chef Joseph Yoon. Lakshmi even lends a hand in the kitchen to fry up some locusts that top a guacamole.

In her Episode 2 cameo, the Orange Is the New Black comedian attempts to rescue a Rapunzel-esque JVN from their perilous walk-up, but it turns out their luscious locks are actually just a weak wig. As Van Ness says: “All good hair is fake, anyway!”

Comedian and The Circle host Michelle Buteau comes on Episode 2 to dish about old shampoo commercials and explain her family’s storied history with hair. These two have been longtime friends: Van Ness has long cited her as a comedy inspiration, and she was a guest on their 2019 comedy tour.

Between committee hearings and House votes, Rep. Pressley comes onto Getting Curious Episode 2 to discuss her journey with alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that causes sudden hair loss — a transformation she says she “didn’t ask for.” Pressley chooses not to wear a wig, explaining: “I was resentful. To have to spend 45 minutes just trying to draw eyebrows on, applying lashes, and then to put a wig on and try to make that look the same every day, it just felt like the kind of armor I didn’t want to put on.” Now, Pressley is one of five women to call for the passage of the federal CROWN Act, which bans discrimination based on hairstyle or hair texture.

Writer and performance artist Alok takes Van Ness on a trip in Episode 3 to the Stonewall Inn, where they discuss the history of transgender and nonbinary people. Alok, a close friend of JVN’s, points out that this isn’t just an issue of the past: Laws against gender nonconforming people are being passed all the time. “We exist, and that’s not political; that’s factual,” Alok says. “We exist, and that’s natural.”

In Episode 3, fashion designer and Project Runway host Christian Siriano explains why fashion is so gendered: When the first major department stores and haute couture houses were established in the early 20th century, gender was still binary in the mainstream. His model, Nala Toussaint, shares the story of her own journey with her gender identity.

In Episode 4, Van Ness and Queer Eye BFF Antoni Porowski recreate the iconic I Love Lucy factory scene after getting inspired at the Entenmann’s donut factory. Hint: It goes exactly as well as it did for Lucy.

Two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan is JVN’s “all-time fairy godmother of figure skating” in Episode 5. Van Ness, who’s been documenting their own figure skating journey since 2018, is now friends with their idol: She’s been a guest on the Getting Curious podcast and starred in a promotional video for their Road to Beijing comedy tour.

Three-time American champ Eliot Halverson, Van Ness’ real-life ice skating coach and choreographer, has been following JVN’s skating journey since the beginning. In Episode 5, Halverson teaches Van Ness (and us) the basics of figure skating, including the anatomy of a skate and the six kinds of jumps.

Bronze medalist and two-time American figure skating champion Gracie Gold shows Van Ness her moves on the ice, and the two of them have an open conversation about mental health in the sport. This is a topic that means a lot to Gold: After publicly struggling with depression and an eating disorder, she made a triumphant return to the rink in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in January 2022.

In the very first scene of Getting Curious Episode 6, Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch stars opposite JVN as an old-timey construction worker on top of a skyscraper. Unfortunately, Van Ness proceeds to kick her lunch down 66 stories, so they may not be the best of friends anymore.
