Each year brings excitement for a new Netflix holiday rom-com. Will Vanessa Hudgens play a fourth switchable princess (or scammer or baker)? What frantic notes will reporter turned royal Amber (Rose McIver) need to scribble to solve her latest Christmas mystery? But in 2022, Netflix is adding a new holiday miracle to the mix: Lindsay Lohan, the star of upcoming romance Falling for Christmas.
Although Lohan has popped up in one Netflix series (see: Sick Note), this is her first-ever original Netflix film. For her buzzy debut, the Mean Girls alum plays a newly engaged (and extremely spoiled) hotel heiress who gets into a skiing accident and suffers total amnesia. Lohan’s socialite finds herself in the care of a handsome lodge owner and his precocious daughter in the days leading up to Christmas.
The film is also brought to you by the creators of, let’s just call it the Festive Romance Industrial Complex. While Janeen Damian is making her directorial debut with Falling for Christmas, which she also co-wrote, she’s been behind the scenes of many other holiday favorites: Damian co-wrote A Princess for Christmas, A Royal Christmas and even the upcoming Christmas in Transylvania. One could say she’s a Christmas veteran. Adding to the romance, Damian’s husband, Michael Damian, co-wrote the movie, along with Jeff Bonnett and Ron Oliver. Brad Krevoy and Amanda Phillips, who produced Netflix holiday classics like the Christmas Prince trilogy and Princess Switch threequels, executive produce.
If you’re not already falling for Falling for Christmas, keep reading for all the info we have so far — including Lohan’s dreamy love interest.
As most Twitter denizens can tell you, Lohan is leading the cast of Falling for Christmas as its plucky, troubled heroine (all rom-com leading ladies need some obstacle to overcome). Glee alum Chord Overstreet will play opposite Lohan as her character’s blue-collar maybe-beau. Malignant’s George Young, soap alum Jack Wagner and In the Heights’ Olivia Perez will also star in the film.

The photo that broke the internet. No matter what happens between Lohan’s amnesiatic blue blood and Overstreet’s dashing Regular Joe, they’ll always have their complimentary red scarves.
The premiere date for Falling For Christmas has yet to be announced, but it’s destined to make whatever season it arrives in merry and bright (and swoony).
