The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone chronicles the journey of a young trans woman, Georgie, as she prepares to undergo gender affirmation surgery. Through home videos and archival footage, this short documentary portrays her childhood and early teenage years as an advocate for trans youth rights in Australia. It also shows Georgie's circle of support, including family, friends and medical professionals. The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone will be available on Netflix Sept. 22.
Since childhood, Georgie has identified as female, and her family has remained supportive of her journey to be herself. Through her struggle to gain access to hormone treatments as a teenager, Georgie has become an advocate for other trans youth by seeking to reform Australia’s legal barriers to gender-affirming treatments. At 18, she anticipates gender affirmation surgery with both excitement and nervousness.

Robertson has been her daughter Georgie’s staunchest ally over the years, nurturing her self-determination and pursuing her legal right to access hormone treatments as a minor. She has also campaigned with Georgie against Australia’s laws that restrict such access and which they say have prevented trans youth from fully being themselves.
Georgie’s father, Greg, joins the family at the hospital in support of his daughter as she prepares for surgery. His voice is often heard behind the camera in home videos of Georgie as a child, asking her questions and providing a space for her to express her feelings about her identity.
Growing up, it was never a question that Georgie was a girl for her fraternal twin brother, Harry. He enjoyed their childhood games where she would play a female superhero or spy. Raised to understand the stigma Georgie faced, he became committed to protecting her privacy before she was ready to be open about her identity.
Director of Adolescent Medicine and the Gender Service team at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Dr. Telfer administered hormone treatment to Georgie as a teenager. She also worked with Georgie to help raise awareness about the need for access to hormone treatment for trans youth.
