True-crime fans, hopeless romantics and readers of Nora Roberts, gather round. We’ve got the first trailer for Brazen, Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Roberts’ Brazen Virtue, and it offers just a taste of all the suspense and steam to come.

Like Roberts’ 1989 novel, Brazen tells the story of Grace McCabe (Alyssa Milano), a successful crime author who goes to visit her sister, Kathleen (Emilie Ullerup), in Washington, DC,… and then finds her brutally murdered. When the detectives assigned to the case discover that Kathleen, a teacher, secretly worked as a webcam performer, the question of her killer becomes all the more complicated. Desperate for answers and skeptical of Kathleen’s secretive ex-husband, Grace throws herself into the investigation — despite warnings from Ed (Sam Page), a calm-and-collected detective who also happens to be a Grace McCabe superfan. “I know this is not one of my books, but I want to help on the case,” Grace tells Ed in the trailer. “This is personal.” Over the past four decades, Roberts has penned 225 novels and sold over 500 million books worldwide, earning scads of devoted readers — among them Milano, who described herself as a “huge Nora Roberts fan.” Milano also executive produced the film and stars alongside castmates Malachi Weir, Matthew Aaron Finlan and David Lewis. As for the rest of us, we’ll be reading Roberts’ impressive backlog and waiting patiently until all of Brazen’s secrets are revealed on Jan. 13.
