Everything You Need to Know About the Spanish Thriller Billionaires’ Bunker

Who knew the apocalypse could be so profitable?

    Sept. 19, 2025

With nuclear war imminent, a billionaire springs his son from prison only for the entire family to flee to a far more luxurious — and far more insidious — lockup. As they are forced to coexist with other elites who can afford to survive the end of the world in an underground bunker, tensions rise as old family secrets come to light and decades-long rivalries begin to boil over.

Created by Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato of Money Heist fame, Billionaires’ Bunker is a Spanish-language thriller that examines how excessive wealth warps the mind. The series stars veteran actors Miren Ibarguren (Phenomena), Joaquín Furriel (The Kingdom), and Natalia Verbeke (Ana Tramel: The Game).

What happens in Billionaires’ Bunker?

Max (Simon) is just a normal kid from an incredibly rich family — he has an equally wealthy childhood bestie turned first love, an acceptance letter to a prestigious university, and blindingly bright future ahead of him. Until one evening, that is, when Max crashes his car after partying too hard, and his girlfriend dies in the accident. Despite Max’s family money, he ends up serving prison time; his whole world narrows to a hell of his own making. Suddenly, three years after his conviction, his father Rafa (Santos) springs him from a life sentence, and shows him what’s been going on in the world. Nuclear tensions are rising.

Rafa begs Max to come with him to Kimera Underground Park, a luxury fallout shelter with enough space for 45 families, before the unimaginable happens. Max remains unconvinced, until Rafa mentions that his girlfriend’s family — her sister Asia (Falcó) and father Guillermo (Furriel) — will be there as well. The opportunity to apologize to Guillermo and make amends to Asia, while also reuniting with his own mother and grandmother, drives Max to accept a spot in the bunker. But what should have been a few weeks sealed off for their own safety while geopolitical agitation calmed down turns into the worst-case scenario. As the two families work through mutual blame and guilt, nuclear bombs are dropped and Spain’s wealthiest elites watch in horror as the surface world is obliterated. Their survival now depends on Minerva (Ibarguren), the mysterious woman who runs Kimera, and the unexpected alliances that form in tragedy.
