





Meet the actors now checking into the live-action Eloise adaptation: Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Victor Garber (Titanic), Max Casella (Inside Llewyn Davis), and Isaac Bae (Unfrosted) join the cast of the film, which is directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel). Newcomer Mae Schenk stars as Eloise alongside Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool).
The logline for the film is currently under wraps, but it will be a wholly original adventure based on the children’s book series written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight. “Eloise has been beloved for generations, from when she was first published in the 1950s through to today, when no family trip to New York City is complete without a stop at The Plaza,” says Hannah Minghella, Head of Feature Animation and Family Film at Netflix. “It’s an honor to reintroduce this cherished character to the world with two people who share her signature mischief and charm — Amy Sherman-Palladino and Ryan Reynolds — in this bold, hilarious, and heartfelt new family film.”

Sherman-Palladino wrote the film with Hannah Marks and Linda Woolverton. Reynolds, George Dewey, Ashley Fox, and Johnny Pariseau produce for Maximum Effort, with Woolverton also producing. Molly Milstein executive produces for Maximum Effort.
Independent film and TV studio MRC acquired the rights to Eloise in 2019 and is overseeing production of the movie. MRC is collaborating with the Thompson estate, illustrator Knight, as well as Simon & Schuster, the book series’ publisher, on the film. MRC Film co-presidents Jonathan Golfman and Brye Adler said at the time of the film’s announcement, “We’ve been working with the Thompson estate and Handmade Films for a long time to bring Eloise to fans everywhere, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Maximum Effort, Amy, and Netflix to bring the cherished children’s property to audiences around the world.”
Handmade Films is working in conjunction with MRC on the production of the picture, which began in London in November.
