When Amsterdam’s most charismatic cannabis coffee shop tycoon gets caught having an affair, his volatile soon-to-be ex-wife swears she’ll take everything from him: his house, his money, his precious cannabis empire — and his little dog, too.
Amsterdam Empire is the latest Dutch crime drama from Piet Matthys, Nico Moolenaar, and Bart Uytdenhouwen, the creative trio behind Undercover, Ferry, Ferry: The Series, and Ferry 2. Amsterdam Empire stars Famke Janssen (X-Men), a Netherlands native, in her first Dutch-speaking role. Alongside Janssen, the series features Elise Schaap (Undercover) and Jacob Derwig (Klem).

Betty Jonkers (Janssen) was the Amsterdam “It” girl before the former pop star and model traded in the glitz of show business to marry Jack van Doorn (Derwig), owner of The Jackal, a cannabis coffee shop empire. But their years-long roller coaster of a marriage is cut abruptly short when Betty finds out Jack’s been having an affair with journalist Marjolein Hofman (Schaap). When Betty confronts Jack (after smashing out the windows of his Rolls-Royce), she finds out his relationship with Marjolein is anything but a careless fling: Jack’s in love and determined to divorce Betty. As Jack leaves their marital home, Betty swears revenge. She’ll take everything Jack built and everything that Jack ever loved, including the precious cannabis business on which he’s staked his wealth and reputation. Luckily for Betty, she knows all his secrets and where all the bodies are buried. Can Jack outwit his wife and save his business? Or will Betty burn everything to the ground, just like she promised?

No, Amsterdam Empire is not based on a book.
Amsterdam Empire is set in, well, Amsterdam.
