Sometimes, one little summer can change your entire life — especially when you’re an introverted high school graduate navigating the world of midnight excursions, mysterious boys, beach parties and spontaneous food fights for the very first time. If, like many of us, you mostly experienced those quintessential milestones through books, the Along for the Ride trailer will give you a taste of teenage freedom — and remind you that it’s never too late to learn how to ride a bike.
Just ask Auden (Emma Pasarow), a precocious insomniac who’s devoted her entire high school career to studying, getting into college and impressing her mom (Andie MacDowell). After graduating, Auden travels to the small seaside town of Colby to hopefully enjoy a change of scenery — and bond with her father and stepmom Heidi (Kate Bosworth). Auden doesn’t expect to find a tight-knit group of friends, and she definitely doesn’t expect to find Eli (Belmont Cameli), a fellow insomniac and a skilled biker with a secret past.

As Eli helps her experience childhood highlights for the first time ever, Auden learns more than a few new things about herself, too. Her stepmom reminds her: “Life is long, Auden. It’d be boring if we had to stay the same versions of ourselves the whole time.”
Along for the Ride is based on the best-selling 2009 novel by young adult literary luminary Sarah Dessen, and directed by Sofia Alvarez, who previously brought the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy to life. The movie comes to Netflix on April 22, so dust off your bike and get ready for a long, sleepless, shimmering summer night.
