Taiga Drama The 13 Lords of the Shogun

Young samurai Hojo Yoshitoki lives peacefully with his brother and sister until Yoritomo, an outlaw, arrives seeking shelter from a furious lord.

Ito and his men prepare for battle and look to execute Yoritomo, but the outlaw flees the conflict with Yoshitoki to the foot of Mount Fuji.

Five years later, Yoshitoki meets with Yoritomo's uncle, Yukiie, who delivers shocking news — Prince Mochihito is preparing a rebellion against Kiyomori.

Yoritomo raises his army and wins his first battle. However, as they face stiff resistance from the Heike, Yoshitoki laments his poor foresight.

With Yoshitoki's counsel, Yoritomo successfully raids several estates and begins distributing the land as spoils of war, much to the Heike's dismay.

After a brutal defeat, Yoritomo flees to the mountains while Yoshitoki's resolve hardens following Hojo clan losses — prompting him to seek new allies.

Emperor Go-Shirakawa's frustrations rise during his capture as the Heike relentlessly pressures him and repels Yoritomo's struggling forces.

As Yoritomo's brother Yoshitune marches forth to join the conflict, Yoshitoki returns to the Kai Province to try to win over the powerful Takeda clan.

Yoritomo's forces arrive in Kamakura, ready to battle the Heike. Yoshitoki and Yoshimura rush to Ito to rescue Sukechika and Yae.

Yoritomo defeats Heike forces in a major battle, to the delight of Emperor Go-Shirawaka. Kiyomori retaliates by moving the capital back to Kyoto.
