After failing his exams, Siegfried's brother returns home from veterinary school and joins James on business calls.

Siegfried scores his dream role working for a racecourse. Meanwhile, James' career is at risk after a difficult decision regarding a prize Thoroughbred.

To prove himself useful, Tristan agrees to look after Tricki for the day while James and Siegfried tend to Dobson's nervous bull.

James volunteers as the attending vet at the Darrowby show and agrees to help Helen. Siegfried and Tristan put their showmanship to the test.

When Siegfried falls ill, it is down to Tristan and James to run the busy surgery and tend to a suffering cow.

Siegfried and Mrs. Hall host a Christmas Eve party at Skeldale House. Meanwhile, James and Helen answer an emergency house call out in the countryside.
