Kaiju No. 8

Having given up on joining the Japan Defense Force, Kafka resorts to disposing of dead kaiju for a living — until a new coworker rekindles his dream.

Targeted by the Defense Force, a transformed Kafka flees the hospital with Ichikawa and encounters a mother and child being attacked by a kaiju.

After a rough start in the Defense Force exam, Kafka hopes to bounce back in the final round, which requires the applicants to neutralize some kaiju.

With Ichikawa's help, Kafka rejoins the battle. Kikoru defeats the final target — but a strange humanoid kaiju suddenly appears before her.

Having passed the exam, the successful candidates gather for a ceremony to be sworn in as Defense Force officers, but Kafka is conspicuously absent.

The new recruits undertake their first mission: eliminate all the yoju in the neutralization area. Kafka finds a clever way to help his comrades.

After wounding Iharu, the cleaner transforms into the humanoid kaiju. Ichikawa orders Iharu to go get backup and attempts to fight the creature alone.

In his kaiju form, Kafka struggles against Hoshina's fierce attacks but manages to escape. Later, Hoshina recalls something strange about the fight.

A swarm of wyvern-type kaiju launches a sudden aerial assault on Tachikawa Base. Hoshina battles the phenomenally powerful kaiju leading the attack.

Hoshina continues attacking the now-massive kaiju but soon reaches his limit. As he struggles, Mina's encouraging words flash through his mind.
