Megumin, a bright and gifted girl from a clan of mages, enrolls in her village's wizard school to obtain the most powerful and explosive magic.

After her sister finds a black cat, Megumin takes it to school. Her class takes part in a lesson to gain experience slaying monsters near the village.

Yunyun makes some new friends while studying in the library with her classmates. To everyone's surprise, Bukkorori suddenly appears with a request.

Megumin starts to think that something is wrong when Yunyun doesn't score high on a test. Later, Yunyun asks her for advice about friendship.

When Komekko is nowhere to be found, a worried Megumin and Yunyun go looking for her and soon find her in a clearing surrounded by winged monsters.

Megumin tries to save up money for travel expenses but has little luck finding employment. One evening, a mysterious woman appears at her door.

Megumin fails to make any money during her first week in Arcanretia. She meets a priestess from a religious order struggling to recruit new members.

Cecily, Megumin and Yunyun decide to investigate the complaints about the hot spring water and discover that it has been contaminated with slime.

Some adventurers ask the Crimson Demon girls to help defend their caravan from monsters. Megumin gladly assists, but Yunyun makes a bigger impression.

Yunyun and Megumin arrive at the Adventurer's Guild in Axel and begin searching for allies, but they struggle to find a party that will accept them.
