After Gaku gives up on his dreams, he takes a job in the school cafeteria. There, he meets and impresses genius chef Kai with his Napolitan pasta.

Gaku impresses the school's patrons with his mathematically perfect Napolitan. He later visits Restaurant K in Tokyo and is amazed by chef Ranna's food.

Gaku runs into his old friend and math rival Kagura. She's unimpressed by his new passion and challenges him. Can his mathematical dish win her over?

After graduating, Gaku moves to Tokyo to work as an apprentice chef at Restaurant K. Kai gives him a week to satisfy the entire staff with his cooking.

Gaku's first staff meal falls short. Struggling with repeated mistakes, he reconnects with an old friend who inspires him with old memories.

Despite finally winning over his colleagues at the restaurant, Gaku feels a growing sense of unease. Later, he encounters a pivotal figure from his past.

Gaku gets his first chance to cook professionally at an awards ceremony for Hirose, but first, he must compete with Restaurant K's chefs for the honor.

The competition between Restaurant K's chefs begins. With each dish he makes, Gaku learns more about his coworkers and what drives them.

Gaku feels proud of his efforts in the competition, but when Kai unexpectedly reassigns him to a new station, he begins to doubt himself again.

Struggling with his new assignment, Gaku considers leaving Restaurant K — until Hirose sends a math research paper that reignites his enthusiasm.
