How to Become Ordinary

Friends Kobato and Osanai enroll in the same high school. Osanai asks Kobato to buy tarts with her, but he gets roped into looking for a stolen bag.

Kengo invites Kobato and Osanai to his house and makes them hot cocoa. Later, in the kitchen, Kengo's sister presents Kobato with a mystery.

After Osanai mentions a strange occurrence, Kobato realizes he left his phone at school. After retrieving it, he decides to investigate the incident.

Kobato has asked Kengo for help regarding the theft of Osanai's bike, but Kengo doesn't quite grasp the situation. Kobato lays out his deductions.

Kobato helps the newspaper club solve a conundrum involving a game using a mustard-filled pastry to decide the writer of a new article.

During a festival, Osanai asks Kobato about his plans for summer break. The next day, she hands him a map marked with local dessert shops.

While waiting to meet up with Osanai, Kobato runs into Kengo, who is staking out a group of students rumored to be involved in something shady.

Having learned that Osanai has been abducted, Kobato suddenly receives a text message from her asking him to buy some specific desserts.

Over tropical fruit parfaits, Kobato and Osanai look back on the events of their summer break, beginning with Kengo's stakeout at the burger shop.

After Kobato admonishes Osanai for her actions, she points out that he seems to be enjoying playing detective and questions their future as friends.
