A young orphan in the slums of the Beltrum Kingdom has his fate changed when he awakens memories of his past life as a Japanese college student.

As a reward for saving Princess Flora, Rio is admitted to the Royal Academy, where he faces ridicule and disapproval from his noble classmates.

Monsters attack Rio's class during a field exercise. Rio saves Flora in the panic, but even that act earns him the enmity of his envious classmates.

Facing false allegations, Rio flees to the neighboring kingdom of Galarc. While traveling through the woods, he encounters a nimble assassin.

After getting knocked out by some spirit folk, Rio sees visions of a mysterious woman and his childhood friend. He awakes in the spirit folk village.

On the day of the Grand Spirit Festival, Latifa is dismayed to learn that Rio plans to leave the village. The warriors detect a dangerous presence.

Arriving in Yagumo, Rio finally finds some answers to his questions about his parents. Eager to learn more, he agrees to live in the village.

Rio travels to the capital of the Karasuki Kingdom as a hired guard. Once there, he learns more about his heritage from old friends of his parents.

Rio enjoys a peaceful life in the village while hiding his noble heritage. However, his plan to leave prompts the usually meek Sayo to act.

After returning to the Forest of Spirits, Rio wakes up next to an unknown girl who says she is his guardian spirit. He then chooses a name for her.
