Raised by her uncle after losing her parents, aspiring actor Toko volunteers in the Tohoku earthquake area, where she meets an attentive young man.

After helping in Kesennuma, Toko and Kiyotaka return to their lives in Morioka and Tokyo. As they keep in touch, their feelings for each other grow.

Determined to go through with her decision, Toko starts working at the barbershop. Kiyotaka finds fulfillment in helping the poor in the Philippines.

Following the vicious attack in the Philippines, Kiyotaka returns to Japan. Spotting him in Tokyo, Toko tails him but is taken aback by what she sees.

During an unexpected reunion with Han and Kiyotaka, Toko gives Shinji an answer to his proposal. Later, Kiyotaka pours out his feelings to Sakamoto.

Han becomes angry at Kiyotaka for mourning Toko's past miscarriage. Shortly after Toko gives birth, Shinji is approached by a pair of detectives.
