It's the first day back at school for eighth graders at a suburban junior high. Boogie, Hugo, Ilyes and Avril are now officially the "big kids."

MJ intrigues her classmates, who try to find out more about her and spread the craziest rumors. The principal is enthusiastic about his announcement.

Boogie wants to prove to his little brother that he has a girlfriend and gives him tips on getting girls. Avril convinces MJ to go to film club.

MJ and Hugo skip gym class and make a surprising discovery on the roof. Distressed by certain comments, Ilyes is not feeling at his best.

On picture day, Avril wants Ilyes to notice her, Boogie intends to honor a family tradition, and MJ has to do some community service.

After a classmate's suicide attempt, the students are asked to write her a letter of support in pairs. Boogie feels remorse and experiences visions.

It is parent-teacher conference day, which gives rise to revelations and confrontations. MJ is torn between feelings of doubt and excitement.

Preparations for the end-of-year party are going well as students look to leave school on a high note. Everyone has their own goals in sight.

As the party is about to begin, Boogie and Avril are stuck on the roof, Achille and Ilyes are fighting, Julianna feels disappointed and Hugo is alone.

Everyone settles scores during the party. For Hugo, Boogie, Ilyes, Avril and MJ, this is the last opportunity to prove they're finally "big kids."
