Monaco Franze

Franz Münchinger, or Monaco Franze, is a Munich detective superintendent. He loves his city, his wife Annette, who he calls "Spatzl" – and adventure.

Monaco is very busy investigating "Italian matters" and taking young women to Italian restaurants in the process – all strictly business, of course.

Monaco, now an early retiree, is now a permanent fixture at the launderette. He gets into trouble with an old acquaintance, Munich crook Tony.

The past catches up with Monaco when a former Swiss lover returns. He's not interested, but the woman is persistent and won't leave him alone.

"Pirate" Monaco has the chance to get close to Lilly at carnival, but he backs out. Meanwhile, his intoxicated wife is out carousing in Munich.

Annette kicks Monaco out, so he goes to a monastery. But when his wife is arrested, he's back on the scene immediately.

Monaco fights his mid-life crisis by falling for a very young woman – and starting boxing. Only he doesn't see how dangerous that can be at his age.

His wife's business folds. Meanwhile, Monaco takes an English course with lots of pretty women, on whom he wastes money during their breaks.

Monaco is not convinced of Annette's plan to move to the tax-haven Bermuda. He can't imagine leaving his beloved Munich.

Without Annette, Monaco turns to alcohol. His wife can't stand Bermuda for long either. But when she returns to Munich, Monaco has vanished.
