He Youanhang and Ran Fangxu clashed over a missing person case, years ago. Now retired, they revisit the unsolved mystery, determined to solve it.

He and Ran once arrested a suspect in the case in that year. Revisiting the scene, he laments the elusiveness of the truth.

A startling discovery leads them to believe someone may be manipulating them from the shadows, and takes the case into a new direction.

He Xiaohe’s transfer request is denied. They continue the investigation, and He and Ran witness the missing child attacking someone with a knife.

He and Ran reopens the missing person case and finally uncovers a new lead. He Youanhang shows his frustrated daughter the old case files.

The suspect makes accusations against He and Ran. He Xiao is tasked with handling the aftermath of the child's injury.

He Youanhang takes Ran Fangxu to Yuanlongli. When Ran Fangxu realizes his old partner wants to reopen the case, he leaves.

With the case at an impasse, He and Ran decide to start over. Despite his efforts, He Youanhang fails to persuade Ran Fangxu to stay on.

They find clues about the persons whereabouts and motivations. He Youanhang joints the investigation, but Ran Fangxu wants to leave.

The He family see Ran Fangxu off. A new lead emerges in Yuanlongli, prompting He and Ran to team up once again.
