Asta and Yuno, two orphans raised together, both dream of becoming the Wizard King. But Asta has one problem: he is yet to awaken his magic.

Heartened by Asta’s unexpected summoning, Yuno recalls the events of 10 years earlier and how an urgent errand led to the unbreakable promise he made.

Asta and Yuno set out to the far-flung capital of the Clover Kingdom to take the first step in their journey: the Magic Knights Entrance Exam.

The orphans enter the exam. After becoming acquainted with the nine squad captains, Asta and Yuno have their magical skills quickly put to the test.

The squad captains keep a watchful eye on Asta and Yuno as the grueling exams continue. Finally, they each choose who they want to join their squads.

Asta meets the rowdy members of Black Bull and is forced to complete a brutal initiation ritual before being officially accepted into the squad.

While giving Asta a guided tour of the Black Bull hideout, Magna introduces him to the squad’s other newest member, the elegant yet haughty Noelle.

Asta is made to do chores around the Black Bull hideout. But things start looking up for him when he and Noelle are assigned their first mission.

After taking care of the boars, Asta, Noelle and Magna head to Saussy Village. But when they arrive, they find it enveloped in a thick magical mist.

With Noelle’s barrier unable to hold up for long, Magna and Asta push themselves to the limit in order to protect the villagers and each other.
