Eddie Murphy
Eddie MurphyBrooklyn native Eddie Murphy (born April 3, 1961) moved as a child to a small Long Island town, where he quickly found his place as one of the funniest kids around. By the time he graduated from high school, he was firmly ensconced in the comedy club circuit.

Soon after, he gained notoriety for a slate of hilarious characters he created on "Saturday Night Live": the grumpy Gumby, the street-smart Mr. Robinson and, most famously, Buckwheat of The Little Rascals.

Film stardom followed suit when he commanded the screen in 48 Hours, Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America -- which came out in 1987, the same year his live concert, "Raw," broke box office records. He also lent his voice to Donkey in the hit Shrek series. But his acting chops were cemented with his role in Dreamgirls (2006), for which he earned his first Golden Globe win and his first BAFTA and Oscar nods.
